Evaluation of the Post-Tensioned Roof Slab
Office Building

During construction of a four-story building with post-tensioned concreteslabs, voids were noticed at one of the anchorage locations of the roof slab. Concerns were raised regarding the interior concrete quality at this location. Concrete Science, Inc. used the impact-echo technique to determine the interior condition of the concrete.

Impact-echo tests were conducted at every six inches of the 5-ft. x 5-ft. area near the suspect area. All the tested locations showed consistent and repeatable results except in a very small area. The test results in this area were indicative of poor surface quality rather than the interior voids.
