Evaluation of the Piers Cement
Plant
During construction of the expansion project at the Victorville cement
plant, two piers of the foundation system for a kiln were placed with
normal weight concrete. Upon removal of the forms, significant amount
of surface honeycombing was noticed and hence, quality of the internal
concrete was of suspect. Concrete Science, Inc. evaluated the piers
with the Pulse Velocity technique.
The results showed a wide variation in velocities for the Drive pier
compared to the Non-drive pier - partly because there were more repair
patches on the Drive pier. In general, the results indicated better
uniformity of concrete at the test locations for the Non-drive pier
versus the Drive-pier. |
