Nondestructive Testing

Asbestos Cement Pipe

Impulse Response tests were conducted on a new pipe section, deteriorated pipe section and a long section of the sewer line. The test procedure involved impacting the pipe surface with an instrumented hammer near the velocity sensor. The "mobility" was determined using the ratio response of the velocity sensor and the hammer obtained from the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analyzer. Test results from the deteriorated and the new pipe section were used to compare the results from the sewer line to determine its overall condition. Tests on the sewer line were conducted at the high, transition and low points to note the differences, if any.
